About Mark

Mark Towhey is a former Editor-in-Chief of Sun News where he oversaw the Toronto Sun, Ottawa Sun, Edmonton Sun, Calgary Sun, Winnipeg Sun, as well as the online news & entertainment property CANOE.com.

He also hosts a popular Sunday afternoon radio program on CFRB NEWSTALK 1010 – Canada’s largest talk station – where he’s enjoyed talking with Canadians since November 2013.

Mark’s first foray into print media was in January 1995 when he launched and edited the monthly Warrior: Canada’s Military Magazine. He remains a frequent commentator on political and current affairs issues for radio and TV programs and co-authored with Johanna Schneller the book Mayor Rob Ford: Uncontrollable about his time as advisor and Chief of Staff to one of the world’s most notorious mayors

Prior to his work in media, Mark was an international management consultant, a high profile political advisor, an international development expert with the UN, EU and World Bank Group, and a professional soldier. He has lived and worked in 12 countries on four continents.

He holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University and is a Certified Management Consultant.

“Towhey has a reputation outside his office for getting things done. As one high-ranking Queen’s Park politico told us, while he doesn’t agree with Towhey’s politics, Towhey is one person inside the current regime who can actually make something happen.”

– Andrew Wallace, Toronto Life, Aug 15, 2012

“Judging by his response to pieces of concrete falling from the Gardiner Expressway, Mark Towhey can handle a crisis and is a credit to his boss …You couldn’t ask for a better response…”

 – Jack Lakey, Toronto Star, Dec 16, 2012

“(Towhey’s) conduct, and the efforts it seems to have inspired in other staffers, stands as the lone bright light in this seamy story.”

– Christie Blatchford, National Post, Nov 13, 2013
