You bet Mark. Our government just keeps ticking along. With 40% MORE STAFF - what are we to do. The public service in all its' forms is a voting bloc there are so many on them. Public service contracts, annual increases COLA, define benefit plans, Toronto councillors voting them selves a 24% pay hike - we deserve? What do us taxpayers deserve? This is starting to smell a lot like "Atlas Shrugged" for real.
Our government has become lazy, covid certainly didn't help nor did the 35K new civil servants. They took their cue from parliament when it allowed remote parliament to continue and then by apparently selling off government office buildings, had no place for all the employees to come back to. There needs to be some adults come into the room, adults with some experience running a business and who ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CARE ABOUT BEING RE-ELECTED!!!
I agree with you, Mark, government must get back to properly providing the basic services well. To free up money to use where it is needed for these services, we need to make sure that government is spending our tax dollars wisely. We should pay down debt and deficits to remain solvent. We should cut taxes when these are under control. This can be done by cutting spending on fraudulent, counterproductive and wasteful spending. As much as the current unsettling situation between the U.S. and Canada worries me, I do envy them for their Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). We need something similar to DOGE to manage Canada's finances.
